One of our favorite things as an organization is finding like-minded institutions and partners around the country because we know that only together we can effectively do prevention in Romania. In November we got the opportunity to be part of a campaign organized by Terre des Hommes in the South of Romania. Alongside our partners from the National Agency, Mattoo Romania and the University of Craiova, we were invited to be part of the trainers and offer a workshop on engaging communities in the fight against human trafficking.
The training was done for community leaders, social workers in the mayor’s office, police and other NGO actors. We were by far the ones honored to be among other experienced and respected trainers and the fact that we were able to share the resources that we created was extremely humbling. Our team worked hard not only on creating the content, but also on making it look good. The packet that we launched and is now available online on www.eliberare.com/resurse includes an actual lesson on basic information about human trafficking, a lesson plan, a powerpoint presentation and a hand-out crafted with the purpose of sumarizing the content of the lesson.
Being able to discuss the non-formal approach in campaigns, along with specific opportunities for follow-up were some of the highlights of the sessions. These experts were thinking of ways in which they can make their knowledge and experience appropriate to different audiences. They also shared ideas in which specific sectors can get involved. We probably learned more from this opportunity than the rest of the participants. It’s that wonderful little principle of getting back while you are giving!
A great surprise came as we had some other opportunities to talk to social work students and professors from the University of Craiova. We are excited to build on these meetings with the new contacts that we made in order to maximize our impact and reach. You guys already know that we are all about new Freedom Fighters!
All in all, we want to thank the organizers for the invitation and the opportunity to share, as well as the participants who will be taking the message of freedom further in their own communities! Together, we are a force for good!
